Surprise Sonogram
Got a surprise phone call from the doctor’s office this morning. They wanted me to come in for a sonogram at 11:00 a.m. They wanted my AFI (amniotic fluid index) tested today so they could “make a plan” if need be.
The beauty of working from home is that we can drop everything and take care of those types of things. So, we turned off our computers and hit the road. The sonogram went smoothly. Mason’s head is still down, thank goodness. The AFI was down to 22 from 30, thank heaven!
I’m still not quite clear on what the rush was to get the reading today. Perhaps the midwife didn’t talk to the doctor until today about what was going on with me this week. Perhaps they wanted to know the AFI before the full moon this weekend in case I go into labor.
I don’t feel like labor is coming in the next day or two. Pretty quiet here in my belly. Bummer.
The children have again made specific requests about when I can NOT go into labor:
I can’t go into labor TODAY because Ali has two finals and Frank has his end-of-the-year school dance tonight.
I can’t go into labor TOMORROW because Zach’s girlfriend is graduating from high school and we are to attend her party afterwards.
I can’t go into labor on MONDAY because Ali has her last batch of finals and it’s the last day of school.
So, that leaves Sunday and then Tuesday on into next week. I’d like to aim for Sunday, but I bet Mason has other plans. Richard’s getting so nervous (they’re doing construction on the highway from here to Ellsworth) that he wants to take the RV down to an Ellsworth campground so we’ll be closer to the hospital when labor begins. That seems like a whole lotta trouble to me. I’d rather just wait and hope that labor starts in the middle of the night, when the construction isn’t going on. If it is during the daytime and we get stuck in traffic, I have no qualms at all about getting out of the van, doubling over in pain, and begging the construction workers to let us pass. In fact, I think I’d enjoy that! Would have to make sure Frank caught it on tape. Ha ha!
And, as I told Richard, it’s only 45 minutes away and I’ve never had a kid THAT quick before! I have to go now. I have to find some wood to knock on…
