I am pregnant with our second child, and even though it won't be a VBAC (Ember was born vaginally, thank God, even though none of the hospital staff thought she would be) I found the birth stories empowering and beautiful. We just knew I was carrying a boy with my last pregnancy. As the time to my expected due date drew closer, I began to really research circumcision. I was against it but my husband wanted it. His father isn't circumcised and my hubby says that his dad often complains about infections and wishes he'd been circumsized. My response to that is that it's not too late to do it if he feels so strongly about it. Of course he's not going to do it! After watching a video of one (and crying profusely during and after it), I told my husband that there was no way I would allow that for our son and thank God!- He agreed. I totally agree. I believe that children have a right to being intact, and I do think it has deep psychosocial implications. Why is it okay to subject our little boys to pain? It's not.
