Certain crimes are so egregious that society has a moral obligation to send a strong and unwavering message that those crimes will not be tolerated. Sexual abuse of children is one of those egregious crimes. One benefit of restricting where convicted child molesters may live is that it sends a message to others thinking of committing such crimes "Try it, and you *will* be stigmatized in this way, because you deserve to be." Yes, restricting where child molesters may live has a deterrent effect. I wholeheartedly support the efforts of Richard and Angela Hoy to protect better the children of Bangor.
